Man dies after being hit by car

An elderly man has died after he was struck by a car in Paisley.

Police have named him as 74-year-old Lewis Grocott, who lived in the Renfrewshire town.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital after being hit by a Fiat Punto in George Street at about 1935 BST on Thursday. He later died.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with alleged road traffic offences and police have appealed for witnesses to the crash.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
